Animal Man borrows a defective time machine from the Time Masters and goes back in time to try to warn his family.

Animal Man, Cliff, Annie and Lucy go to see the band Year Zero who have embraced the church established by Buddy and Maxine. At the farm, more teenagers arrive to join the church.

Animal Man and his new religious converts begin to travel across the country to reach Montana.

Ray Dillinger, one of the disciples of Animal Man's church is captured by some local farm boys, but is rescued by Jack, who is looking for his son among Animal Man's converts.
